A fifteen-year stint deep in the Japanese countryside left me utterly fascinated by the quiet beauty, and immense variety of stone sculptures found in temples and shrines, along old and forgotten horse roads, or hidden rice paddies.

Fascination soon turned into collecting, and later a wish to share.

The Buddha in Stone offers a discerning collection of antique Japanese stone sculptures ranging from the early 14th century Muromachi to late 19th century Edo period, and from the more common Jizo deity stones to extremely rare pieces in the Buddhist and Shintoist pantheon.
